Africa’s troubled Rwanda is the recipient of a new technology program aimed at promoting computer education. Craig Barrett, Intel’s board chairman, revealed this information after the World Economic Forum in Davos held earlier this year.

While speaking with reporters, Barrett was asked about the possibility of bringing the same project into the war-ravaged lands of Gaza and the West Bank. Garrett was quick to reply that it would take the sincere cooperation and support of involved governments, banks, and representatives from the private sector for the project to be truly successful.

In a significant way, Garrett is right in requiring full cooperation from various sectors. An ambitious project that aims to transform lives needs more than the effort of one company, especially if the aim is to veer away from a life surrounded and dictated by terror.

This, however, will not be that easy to carry out since working with most governments may require one to get involved in shady practices and deals. Garrett makes a strong point on this when he mentioned that minimizing red tape will substantially help in making high technology projects succeed.

Any project that aims to rebuild the shattered lives of those living in war-torn areas deserves proper attention and cooperation. If working with involved governments will prove to be such a difficult task, Garrett and his group can partner with other well-meaning corporations, just like what they did with the Rwanda project.
