Due to the Recession Several Snowboarding Businesses Will Be Cutting down Their Number of Catered Chalets

Thanks to the global recession snowboarding reservations decreased last skiing season.

Even with excellent early reservations and great snow.

These reductions in numbers follows on from seven winters of continuous growth within the ski industry, and the numbers decreased from 1 million in 2008 to 850000 last year.

This is in part due to snowboarders giving their annual snowboarding holiday a miss, whilst additional snowboarders who’d usually have two skiing holidays, merely had the one.

A fall of 15% was experienced by the independent travel sector with numerous low priced airlines slashing the amount of airplanes to certain cities.

Tour operators saw their reservations reducing by about the same amount.

Nonetheless, the leading companies market share continued at 72% and the French Alps carried on as the top destination with around 37% of the English ski market.

Due to this several major tour operators lowered the no. of luxury ski chalets they run this year.

The luxury ski holiday market will see a reduction in vacationers because a catered chalet costs the operator more with regards to chalet hosts and rental if it is empty.

It’s unlikely therefore that we will benefit from the deals that were around last winter.

And prices are likely to rise, costs probably won’t go up a lot.
