An Adventure in Turks and Caicos
Large expanses of white sand beaches and crystal clear waters make the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean an alluring destination for a fun-filled vacation. A wide spectrum of land and water sports are available on these islands ensuring that visitors are never short of interesting things to do while they are on holiday, Whether they are in Providenciales or Provo as it is often referred to by the locals, or in Middle Caicos or Grand Turk, land and water sports enthusiasts can look forward to an unforgettable vacation
Among the water sports, snorkeling and scuba diving in the reefs around the islands is very popular. Scuba divers and snorkelers can see a rich variety of marine life including sharks, mantarays and dolphins. In fact, Jojo,a friendly wild dolphin who inhabits the waters near Providenciales is known to interact voluntarily with humans and is a in effect mascot for the conservation efforts in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
For scuba diving or snorkeling, there are other land and water sports options available in the Turks and Caicos. Deep-sea fishing charters are available in North and Middle Caicos as well as in Providenciales.
Land sports options include bird watching treks in the national parks, exploring the caves in Middle Caicos or rappelling down the “Hole” in Long Bay. Beachcombing for shells is a favorite pastime.
Apart from the usual land and water sports activities, one of the unique experiences that visitors can have on Turks and Caicos is a whale watching trip in Salt Cay between January and May. These giant mammals migrate, breed and calve close to the islands in these months. Mother and calf whales have often been sighted in the waters close to Salt Cay
