10 Common Direct Mail Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

Successful direct mail does not need to be elaborate full color
printing or creative design. The major factors contributing to a
successful direct mail program are in the planning and
implementing of the program. Avoid the following common blunders
when developing your next mailing.

1. Ignoring the most important factor in direct mail success:
the list. Not spending enough time and effort upfront when you
select your list can lead to wasting money and time. In direct
mail, a mailing list is not just a way of reaching your market:
it is your market. Get your ad agency or list broker involved in
the early stages to help you identify and select the best list.

2. Not tracking or testing. Many marketers seldom test one
mailing piece against another. As a result, they repeat their
failures and have no idea of what works.

3. Giving up too easily. Marketers need to be patient with
mailings. Prospects may need to see your name several times
before they take action.

4. Not having an offer. A well-thought-out offer is essential in
a successful mailing. A prospect needs something to which to
respond. Studies have shown that the most impactful word is
“free.”

5. Too verbose. Get to the point quickly. Prospects are too busy
to read and interpret lengthy (and sometimes boring) content.

6. Saving the best for last. Saving the strongest sales pitch
for the end and hoping to build to a climatic conclusion will
ensure disaster. A typical prospect reads for only a few seconds
before deciding whether to continue reading or throw your
mailing in the trash.

7. Poor follow-up. Your mailing will yield greater results if
you phone your prospects soon after the mailing. In addition,
slow fulfillment of literature requests will destroy the initial
interest that you worked so hard to build.

8. Not using the magic words. “Free gift”, “no obligation”,
“details inside”, “limited time only” are examples of cliché
phrases that still get results.

9. Starting with the product - not with the prospect. You or
your product is not important to the prospect. The reader only
wants to know, “What’s in it for me?”

10. Creating and editing direct mail by committee. The fewer
people who are involved the better. Copy re-writes and graphic
design changes can cost money and time and typically have little
effect on the results of the mailing.

Easy Way to Troubleshoot Pump Problems

In any problem analysis, we have to specify the problem, check
whether there is any deviation from the normal condition,
identify the possible causes, evaluate the possible causes and
then confirm the true cause.

Pumps or other machinery will give tell tale signs when they are
not working properly. An observant pump user will be able to
avoid major breakdowns or damage if the problem is corrected
early.

In order to solve any pump problem, we need to notice the
symptoms carefully so as to determine the most likely causes.
Instruments like pressure gauges are very helpful and should be
installed in the pumping system.

Very often we do have to rely on our 5 senses to pinpoint the
exact symptom. Normally, pump problems can be classified into
Suction Related, System Related, or Mechanical Related. It can
also be a combination of these.

Most of the system related problems occur because of design
flaw. For example, the designer may have chosen the wrong pump
whose characteristic does not match the system requirement.
Suction related problems are usually caused by air lock that are
due to a variety of reasons…

The effects of mechanical related problems could manifest
themselves as suction related problems - air leaks in the
system, worn out impellers, and mouth rings - but the most
common symptom is the presence of vibration and abnormal noise
in the equipment.

DiagnoPump, pump troubleshooter has been created for pump users
and sellers to help them find the solution quickly. Arranged so
that the easiest (and often overlooked) causes are examined
first, it could be a very useful tool.

If you are a beginner, you can start the troubleshooting from
the very first steps. More experienced users may want to start
from the later stages in the symptom list. The symptoms have
been identified to make it easy to zero in on the correct ones.
The symptoms have been arranged as:

1. No Flow, No Pressure - No water delivered at all 2. Low Flow
and Low Pressure - Pump does not deliver sufficient water or
Pump does not deliver water after some time or Insufficient
pressure developed 3. Short Lifespan of Shaft Seal or Packing -
Shaft seal or Gland Packing does not last long 4. Short Lifespan
of Bearings, Noisy Operation - Bearings do not last long or
Vibration and noisy operation or Overheating of parts or Seizure
of bearings 5. Pump Trips - Pump stops by itself or Excessive
power consumption

They have captivated overseas people for years and continue to stimulate the curiosity of overseas visitors of all ages. The Unbelievable Becomes Believable

The Path Is Winding:

Ever wonder why things that happen in our lives seem so cruel and undeserved? Why do these things happen to me? Why am I being punished like this? What am I doing wrong? All of us have sought answers to these questions dozens of times. Have you found the answer yet?

We all have some sort of dubious answers as to why they happen. Many are good events, and many are bad things. Maybe it’s just fate, or just coincidence. Your faith might have something to do with it. But, how could that be? God doesn’t torture us, or intentionally lead us astray. Does he?

Ten Steps To Find The Inevitable Answer:

1.Take a good look inside yourself.
2.Examine in detail how each sudden turn in the path altered your life.
3.List all of the reasons why you think that turn has unexpectedly made your life better in one way or another.
4.Make a list of all of the problems and difficulties that would have taken place if your life had not taken a turn.
5.Compare the lists you just created and discover the hidden connections.
6.Allow you mind to bring those connections into reality.
7.Find the inevitable answer.
8.Notice how unexplainably your life becomes more peaceful and fruitful.
9.Later, take a good look back and it all becomes understandable.
10.Recognize that you don’t just think it, you know it! God does walk with you!

1. Take a good look inside yourself:

We never give ourselves enough credit. You can find out what kind of person you really are. Ask yourself; are you always kind, tolerant, respectful, judgmental, feeling hate, a troublemaker, argumentative, and etc.?

Write down all the descriptive words that you believe fit you. If you lie, you lose. You do not need to go to a “shrink” to see what you are made of. Look at the list!

OK, so you fudged a little on a couple of the descriptive terms. We aren’t perfect. Sometimes we are like “this,” and sometimes we are the “opposite,” depending on the circumstances.

However, most of us are predominantly one or the other personality type as we go through life. It is really a challenge to describe yourself harshly, no holds barred! Knowing how you act and feel about things in life prepares you for the next step.

2. Examine in detail how each sudden turn in your path altered your life:

Life is never easy for anyone. You never get a free pass. Believe it or not, every event in your life, good or bad, does have a reason for happening. If you don’t believe that, then later on you might. For the time being, accept it.

Look at the circumstances that led up to what happened carefully. Where were they leading you?

Look at what happened after the issue was resolved. Then pay particular attention to what effect it had in the long run. Were you removed from a bad environment? Could you have been forced into a decision that you hated to make, and later you found peace with it? Well, you aren’t alone there.

Look critically for the positive results. They are there! Every one of these events has a positive spinout even though it doesn’t look or feel like it in the beginning.

3. List all of the reasons why you think that turn unexpectedly made your life better in one way or another:

Have you ever heard, “What you think in your mind will actually cause the future to abide by that?” It’s true. Do not think about listing all the negative things that you think was the result.

It is amazing how many positive thoughts come up, that you hadn’t ever thought about. Give yourself a break! It will blow your mind!

4. Make a list of the problems and difficulties that would have taken place if your life had not taken a turn:

Surely you know where you were headed, but were just avoiding the issue. You say, “No, I never thought about it.” Here’s the chance to drum up some negative thoughts that produce a positive result.

Hidden in the mind are all these thoughts. But when you sit down to write them out, they are uncovered, like a miracle. Try it! See what happens!

What may seem so terrible in the beginning will actually turn out to be a blessing in disguise. It may take time to see it, but eventually you will know it. Don’t trouble your soul with doubt.

It’s a free handout that comes with faith. Take the handout and make a better life for yourself. That in turn will enrich all those around you.

5. Compare the lists that you just created and discover the hidden connections:

Buried within this pile of words is a revelation. Open your mind so that you can feel it. You will see that the sudden turn in your living path has certainly thrust you into a new and powerful hold on the value of your soul and life. Sounds like a bunch of BS. Right?

If you look at the direction you might have been going, that kink in the path that happened, and where you find yourself now, there is proof of the epiphany.

6. Allow your mind to bring those connections into reality:

Just take a close look around you. What do you see that is there now, and wasn’t there before? You can, if you look hard, see that all those things that were leading you down the wrong path have changed.

The changes place you in a unique position to grab onto opportunities that would never have existed before. See it and believe it!

7. Find the inevitable answer:

You can’t fight it. Remarkable as it seems, all these things happen for a reason. The reason only becomes obvious with time. Faith in a higher power permits the vision to come into focus. Then you will know the true answer.

God walks beside you all the way through your journey. Skeptics will ponder and wander, forever. You won’t.

8. Notice how unexplainably your life becomes more peaceful and fruitful:

Wow! You do feel the peace of mind. You experience the calmness of your soul. No one can convince you to believe anything different. Trying to explain the changes and the emotions that you now feel is easy and unnecessary.

What is so exciting about it is that all of those around you see this happening, and brings them closer to you than ever before. Nothing is better than that. Agreed?

Your business starts booming, you get a promotion, you don’t seem to be in a continuous struggle anymore, or someone special comes into your life. You will see your life expanding into productiveness, compassion, desire to help others, and satisfaction. That’s what we call “caring.”

9. Later, take a good look back and it all becomes understandable:

With the maturity of age and the wisdom brought about by experience and knowledge, we are able to look back at our lives with generous regard. There is no criticism, no judgment, no punishment that you previously laid on yourself.

You did the best you could under the circumstances, and all you need to do is forgive yourself. Just say out loud, “I forgive me for all those things. God has already forgiven me.”

10. Recognize that you don’t just think it, you know it:

Sometimes we just don’t stop to think about it. The gains of happiness, love, and faith creep up on us so subtly that it just seems to be a natural occurrence. It isn’t! We were being led through life with a guiding hand. And, at the same time, following the plan set up for us at the instant we were born.

We do choose the path we want to take to get there. But, if you notice, all the paths are heading in the same general direction. Getting sidetracked here and there is just part of the life-game. Now that you know, make it count!

Christmas in Spain

Rather refreshingly, Spain doesn’t seem to start gearing up for
Christmas until they get into the month of December. It’s not
the huge commercial circus that it is in the US and the UK; the
lights and decorations won’t be seen until the start of December
and gradually Christmas markets start to appear and trees can be
bought in the streets.

It’s also worth noting that Spain is largely a Roman catholic
nation so the festivities still hold important religious
connotations, the first date of note is December 8th, Immaculada
(the Feast of the Immaculate Conception), this really kicks of
the start of the religious celebrations. The holiday period
really begins on December 22nd when all of Spain tunes into the
television or radio to hear the results of “El Gordo”, a huge
lottery draw that will see thousands of prizes dished out to
winners from across the country.

Christmas Eve is a huge family day in Spain and is known as
“Nochebuena”. A massive meal will be prepared for what is the
biggest feast of the year and the most important family
gathering. Fish and shellfish are usually consumed to start
with, followed by a roast such as lamb or a suckling pig and
desert is the traditional marzipan or Turrn (an almond based
sweet very popular in Spain). Cava is typically the drink of
choice at this time of year. It is also customary for adults to
exchange their presents on “Nochebuena” and although the kids
may get a small gift, they will have to wait until they get
their presents. After the dinner the majority of people will
then go to midnight mass, known in Spain as “La Misa de gallo”
(the Mass of the Rooster).

Every town, church and, very often, home will have a “Belen” (a
nativity scene) at this time of year and some are extremely
large and impressive. Sometimes they will be set up in a town
square with real actors to form a life-sized recreation of the
nativity. These scenes form an important part of the Christmas
celebrations to Spaniards and are repeated throughout much of
Latin America.

Christmas Day itself is one of the quietest of the year in
Spain. As in most of the western world it is a public holiday
and all shops, banks etc will be shut for the day, more and more
families now observe the tradition of going out to a restaurant
for a meal. There certainly isn’t a great deal in the way of
unbridled celebration as tend to be the case in the UK and US.
The kids don’t even receive their presents on this day, for that
they have to wait until January 6th, Epiphany, when the three
kings brought their gifts to Christ. Rather than Santa, it’s the
three Kings who are the heroes and in particular, Balthasar, who
is said to leave them their presents. Traditional cakes called
“Rosca de Reyes” are typically eaten on this day. Much like
putting coins in Christmas pudding in England, the cakes are
baked with plastic charms in them and are said to foretell a
lucky year for those who find them.

Get Evaluations to Grow

You’re speaking, so you know what you’re saying. But, do you know what your audience is hearing?

Or perhaps you’re writing. Do you know what your audience is reading?

I know many speakers who’ve been surprised when they discovered the distance between the message they sent and the message the audience received. That’s not really unexpected. After all, we really can’t gauge how our content or delivery comes across to others unless we’ve had the evaluations of others.

For example, I’ve learned from speaking evaluations that I’m often too serious, and that I should lighten up. That’s not something that was obvious to me, but after several formal and informal evaluations, I now recognize the truth of that observation.

In the same way, I’ve learned to reduce the amount of content in my speeches. When I’m writing a speech, I now know I’m not writing a book. By that, I mean the listener can take in much less than a reader, and it’s up to the speaker to make the content fit. That, too, I learned from the evaluations of others.

If you can get someone to evaluate your speech or presentation, ask for specific assessments on several criteria, rather than just general comments. These specific criteria might include:
* content suitability for the audience
* vocal variety and pacing
* posture and general bearing
* gestures and body language
* eye contact.

Make your list as long or as short as you wish, and remember that the more specific the criteria, the easier it will be to get information you can you use for improvement.

Much of what we’ve discussed about speaking works for writing as well. Again, ask for specific assessments rather than general comments. While it’s nice to be told, “Your memo was great,” it’s much more useful to get feedback on specific criteria, such as:
* writing style (too formal or too casual, for example)
* word usage
* amount of content
* suitability of content
* overall readability by target audience.

Many friends and colleagues will happily give you feedback if you ask for it; now you need to approach the subject strategically, and make sure you get feedback you can use to improve your performance.

How to Derive the Maximum Efficiency Out of Your Exercise Regimen?

Want to bring a zing and energize your stale workout routine? Master a trick or two from the following tips and see the results for yourself. Certain tips that can stimulate new techniques to squeeze more muscle-building efficiency out of each exercise that can really make all the difference

Most of the exercise schedules are meant to give you a toned, fit and healthy body. Not aches and pains.

. Choose exercise suitable to your level- if you are a beginner, work up gradually.

. Take things at your own space

. Make sure you drink water before, during and after exercise.

. Do gentle warm-up stretches before and after exercising.

. Wear good footwear and appropriate clothing.

. Enjoy yourself

Random Tip-Try Alpha and Beta exercises: There are two forms of muscle strength. Alpha strength is the momentary strength required to do, for example, one maximum bench press rep. Beta strength is the strength required to perform four sets of 20 reps with the heaviest weight possible. Think of it as a sprint versus marathon. Experiment to discover which form of muscle strength is your forte. Try a workout where you do only one all-out set, and then try a different workout, where you do multiple sets to failure.

Your Real Face is One Layer Down

Adult acne treatments are numerous, and if you have deep acne scars from your adolescent years, there are several methods that are proving to be effective in correcting your unsightly problem. A surgical procedure called punch elevation corrects boxcar scars that have sharp edges and normal appearing bases. A punch tool is used to excise the base of the scar which leaves the wall intact. After the base is excised, it is then elevated to the surface of the skin and attached with steri-strips, sutures or skin glue called Dermabond. This method is proving to be effective as it lessens the risk of producing a visible scar that can be seen when wound edges are sutured. It also lessens the risk of texture or color differences that are usually found with graft replacement.

Acne scar removal can be performed using a technique called subcutaneous incision, which is also referred to as subcision. Performed under local anesthesia, it is used to break up the fibrous bands that cause rolling scars. It is performed by inserting a specially-beveled needle under the skin so that is parallel with the skin surface. The needle is gently advanced and careful attention is focused on staying between the dermis and the subcutaneous tissue levels. The needle is then advanced and retracted in a piston-like motion that cuts the tethering bands. Some bruising does occur that usually abates within a week or two. There is a risk of bleeding and the formation of subcutaneous nodules. With the proper use of anesthetics and bandaging bleeding can be controlled, and the subcutaneous nodules can be treated by using injections of corticosteroids into the nodule.

Many skin defects are treated by using a technique called laser resurfacing. The most popular type of laser used for acne scars is carbon dioxide (CO2) and erbium lasers. The lasers work by burning the top layers of skin to a precise depth. The skin heals by replacing the layers that were burned with new skin. Postoperative care is critical after undergoing laser resurfacing. It is an important factor which determines the success of your acne treatment.

Personal Liability Insurance Important Considerations

The basic coverage for personal liability in standard
homeowners, rental, and auto insurance policies often will not
cover high losses of court awarded damages. Additional personal
liability insurance will add a higher level of protection. This
additional policy forms an umbrella because it covers protection
above and beyond standard homeowners and auto policies.

Additional costs will vary with insurance companies, but usually
average from $200 to $300 a year for additional protection of 1
million dollars. This coverage may insure automobiles, boats,
homeowners, and renters insurance. Most insurance companies
require basic insurance of $100,000.

The insured should ask the following questions:

1. How much do I have to lose? 2. What is the monetary total of
my assets? 3. How much would legal fees cost me? 4. Are umbrella
personal liability policies which cover one million dollars or
more worth the extra premiums? Most insurance advisors recommend
that they are.

Rate yourself and your family:

Are you careless? Do you own a pool or an active recreation
room? Do other people work in your home? Have accidents occurred
in your home? Add to this list of possible personal hazards.

If you answered yes to any question, you need additional
protection of the umbrella liability insurance policy. Don’t
forget to buy additional auto insurance.

Study liability insurance on the internet or consult your
insurance needs with a reliable agent. The internet has many
clear, illustrated paragraphs of available types of policies.
Individuals may study thousands of agents and companies, have
questions answered, and purchase all types of insurance policies
online from the leading insurance companies of the world.

Do not risk future financial disaster because you failed to act
by saying, “It can’t happen to me. I don’t need extra coverage.”
The coffee table in your living room that you gingerly step
around could cause a house guest to topple over. Another friend
on an overnight stay slips on the staircase as she is on the way
to the kitchen to get a cup of warm milk. These people might not
be injured, but it is possible.

If anyone has an accident in your home or on your grounds, they
could be severely injured. That is when you are in dire need of
a personal umbrella policy. The insured needs to evaluate all
possible situations that could lead to a major loss.

Remember personal liability insurance does not cover any
business whether it is operated in the home or at an independent
location. They are separate entities. The insured needs business
insurance to cover any losses. Umbrella policies are available
to cover the insured’s business.

If you still have doubts, get assistance from a certified public
accountant who does not make a commission on insurance sales,
but charges for the office visit and the advice. Also, and very
important, take the time to read every word of your policy, and
if you don’t understand it: ASK QUESTIONS.
